Yes, Caster uses Ethereum-based cryptography for identity management. The protocol code is open-source, and the architecture has been reviewed by the developer community and VCs like a16z.

Caster: Guia do projeto | Atualizações, pré-venda e airdrop

Q: What is the Purpose of Caster?

The purpose is to provide a decentralized backbone for social media where users own their data and developers can build without fear of being de-platformed by a central authority.

Q: How Can I Participate in Caster's Ecosystem?

Users can participate by downloading a client like Warpcast, paying the storage fee to create an account, and engaging with the community through 'casting,' building Frames, or joining specific channels.

Q: What Sets Caster Apart from Competitors?

Unlike Lens Protocol which is purely on-chain, Caster uses an off-chain Hub system for faster performance, and unlike Mastodon, it provides a unified global namespace and identity for all users.

Q: What are the Risks Associated with Caster?

Risks include the potential for spam despite the storage fee model, regulatory uncertainty regarding decentralized social media, and the reliance on the continued maintenance of the Hub network.

What is Caster?

Caster (associated with the Farcaster protocol) is a decentralized social networking protocol designed to be a sufficiently decentralized social layer for the internet. Its primary purpose is to allow users to maintain control over their social data, identity, and connections, ensuring that no single entity can censor interactions or revoke a user's digital presence. The project's mission is to move social media from closed gardens to an open-source, permissionless ecosystem where developers can build diverse client applications on a shared data layer.

How Does Caster Work?

The Caster ecosystem operates on a decentralized architecture where user data is stored in 'Hubs'—off-chain servers that maintain a copy of the network state. Identity is managed on-chain, primarily on the Optimism L2 network, to ensure security and portability. To prevent spam, the protocol utilizes a 'Storage Unit' model where users pay a small annual fee (rent) to store their posts (casts), reactions, and follows on the network. This peer-to-peer data distribution ensures that any client application can access and display the same social graph.

What Makes Caster Unique?

Caster stands out through its 'Frames' feature, which transforms static social media posts into interactive mini-apps, allowing users to mint NFTs, play games, or make purchases directly within their feed. Unlike traditional platforms, it offers total data portability; if a user dislikes one app (like Warpcast), they can switch to another without losing their followers or history. This 'sufficient decentralization' model balances user experience with blockchain-backed ownership, attracting a high-density community of developers and crypto-native users.

Who Are the Founders of Caster?

The project was co-founded by Dan Romero and Varun Srinivasan, both former senior executives at Coinbase. Dan Romero served as a Vice President at Coinbase and brought extensive experience in scaling crypto infrastructure, while Varun Srinivasan served as a Senior Director of Engineering. Their combined expertise in decentralized systems and consumer-facing crypto products was instrumental in designing a protocol that emphasizes both technical robustness and mainstream-ready user experience.

What Key Events Have There Been for Caster?

Caster achieved significant milestones including a $30 million seed round led by a16z in 2022 and a massive $150 million Series A led by Paradigm in 2024, valuing the project at $1 billion. A major technical turning point was the migration to the Optimism Mainnet in August 2023. In early 2026, the protocol underwent a major transition when it was acquired by the infrastructure provider Neynar, with the original founders stepping away to focus on new ventures.

Project Announcements

Recent updates have focused on the 'Wallet-First' strategy, emphasizing integrated crypto wallet features within the social feed. Following the acquisition by Neynar, the roadmap has pivoted toward providing more robust APIs for developers and enhancing the 'Frames' ecosystem to support more complex on-chain transactions.

Latest Airdrop

While no official native 'CASTER' protocol token exists yet, the ecosystem is known for 'Retroactive' rewards. Many users anticipate a future TGE based on Warp activity points. Currently, community-led airdrops like $DEGEN and $HIGHER are frequently distributed to active participants based on engagement metrics.

ICO Time

No public ICO has been announced by the Merkle Manufactory team; the project has relied exclusively on private venture capital funding.

IDO Time

Information regarding a Decentralized Offering is currently unavailable as there is no official token listing.

TGE Time

A Token Generation Event (TGE) for a native protocol token is widely speculated but has not been officially confirmed by the current stewards at Neynar.

Where to Buy Caster?

Currently, there is no official 'CASTER' utility token for the protocol. However, community tokens associated with the ecosystem, such as $DEGEN (the primary social currency on Caster), can be traded on decentralized exchanges like Uniswap (Base network) and centralized platforms like HTX, Bybit, and Gate.io.

Caster Price

Daily Trading Volume

Trading volume for ecosystem-related tokens like $DEGEN and $CAST (Castello) varies; $DEGEN often sees $10M-$50M daily, while older or less active 'Caster' named tokens show negligible volume.

All-Time High

The ecosystem peaked in valuation during the 'Frames' craze of early 2024, with related tokens reaching heights in April 2024 before the market stabilized.

All-Time Low

Early 2023, prior to the migration to Optimism and the launch of the Warpcast client, represented the lowest point of liquidity and active market participation.

Market Cap and Valuation

Market Cap

The Farcaster protocol itself was valued at $1 billion in its last private funding round (Series A), ranking it among the top 'Unicorn' projects in the DeSoc space.

Fully Diluted Valuation

Statistical representation of a future token's FDV is speculative; however, venture analysts suggest a multi-billion dollar FDV if a native token were to launch at current adoption levels.

Caster Price Prediction

Prediction

There are currently no available forecasts for an official Caster token from reliable financial publications, as the token does not exist. Market analysts suggest that the project's value is tied to user growth (DAU) and the success of the 'Base' L2 ecosystem. Credible insights from sources like Messari and Bankless highlight that while the protocol has strong fundamentals, future token performance would depend on sustainable revenue models beyond simple storage fees.

How to buy Caster?
