Q: What is the Purpose of BitSat?

The primary goal of BitSat was to provide a space-based backup for the Bitcoin blockchain, ensuring its continuous availability and resilience against terrestrial network failures.

Q: How Can I Participate in BitSat's Ecosystem?

As the BitSat project appears to have stalled, there are currently no active avenues for participation.

Q: What Sets BitSat Apart from Competitors?

BitSat's approach to decentralization through space-based infrastructure distinguishes it from other projects that rely solely on terrestrial networks.

Q: What are the Risks Associated with BitSat?

Potential risks included the high costs associated with satellite deployment, regulatory challenges, and the technical complexities of maintaining a space-based network.

Layer2

Bitsat aims to build a new type of network layer — HyperLayer based on the Bitcoin network through ZK technology, to achieve scalable, secure, and low-cost transaction processing and asset transfers, while enabling smart contract capabilities for the Bitcoin ecosystem through the VM Engine and compatibility with the EVM ecosystem.

What is BitSat?

BitSat is an experimental communications satellite constellation proposed by Dunvegan Space Systems (DSS), consisting of 24 3U CubeSats. The project aimed to create a space-based backup for the Bitcoin blockchain, ensuring its availability even during terrestrial network disruptions.

How Does BitSat Work?

Each BitSat satellite was designed to store the complete Bitcoin transaction chain, verify it, and exchange information with ground stations. This setup would allow the Bitcoin network to function independently of the internet, providing a resilient and decentralized infrastructure.

What Makes BitSat Unique?

BitSat's uniqueness lies in its approach to decentralization by leveraging space-based infrastructure. By operating as orbital nodes, these satellites would ensure the continuous availability of the Bitcoin blockchain, even in scenarios where ground-based networks are compromised.

Who Are the Founders of BitSat?

The BitSat project was initiated by Jeff Garzik, a key developer of the Bitcoin Core client. He founded Dunvegan Space Systems to spearhead this initiative, collaborating with Deep Space Industries for the satellite design and development.
