What is SBI Investment?

SBI Investment is the venture capital arm of SBI Holdings, a leading Japanese financial services group. Established in 1999, it is one of Japan's most prominent VC firms, focusing on high-growth sectors such as Fintech, AI, Blockchain, and biotechnology. Its mission is to act as a 'New Industry Creator' by identifying and nurturing startups that possess the potential to transform the global financial and technological landscape.

How Does SBI Investment Work?

The firm operates through a three-stage 'Investment, Adoption, and Diffusion' process. First, it identifies promising startups and provides capital through various specialized funds (like the Fintech Fund or AI & Blockchain Fund). Next, it 'adopts' these technologies within the SBI Group's own financial ecosystem to verify their feasibility. Finally, it 'diffuses' these solutions to external regional financial institutions and global partners to scale the technology's impact.

What Makes SBI Investment Unique?

Unlike traditional venture capital firms, SBI Investment is integrated into a massive financial conglomerate, providing its portfolio companies with immediate access to a 'Living Lab.' Startups can test their DApps or fintech solutions within SBI’s banking, securities, and insurance divisions. Furthermore, the firm is a pioneer in institutional digital assets, having formed major joint ventures like SBI Ripple Asia to facilitate cross-border DLT solutions.

Who Are the Founders of SBI Investment?

SBI Investment was founded by Yoshitaka Kitao, who remains the Representative Director, Chairman, and CEO of SBI Holdings. Kitao is a legendary figure in Japanese finance, formerly an executive at SoftBank Corp. He is known for his 'Ethical Capitalism' philosophy and his early conviction in blockchain technology. He is supported by a leadership team of veterans like Nobuyuki Kawabata and Ken Goto, who bring decades of expertise in strategic finance and tech incubation.
